Shoulder osteoarthritis: General information

Shoulder: General information

Much less common than for the knees, hips, hands or spine, osteoarthritis of the shoulder (omarthrosis) is usually secondary: it is the result of trauma, a defect of the joint or pathology of the rotator cuff.

So called primitive omarthrosis is very rare (appears spontaneously).

However, more common in women, it is not exceptional after the age of 60. It may affect both shoulders but its evolution and severity may differ.
